An article in The Verge discusses efforts by scientists at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and others to use probabilistic and other algorithmic analysis to decipher the ancient Indus script, what they have found about it possibly encoding different languages in different places, their detractors, and how their efforts fit into modern political and cultural boundaries. Well worth a read.
