All pottery from the first part of the Ravi Phase was hand built. Most of the forms were finely made shallow bowls, deep bowls, narrow-mouthed carinated vessels, or thick walled cooking pots.

Protecting mud brick walls
After mapping and photography, the fragile mud brick walls of Trench 54 are covered with a protective layer of burlap and sifted soil to form a sacrificial layer in which dissolved salts can dry and crystallize without damaging the ancient walls.
Female figurine with a double volute headdress from Harappa
The "cones" that often decorate figurine headdresses may be reproductions of the small gold cones that have been found at Indus Civilization sites. Similar small gold cones are still used as hair ornaments in South Asia.

Pottery fragment with sunburst
In one of the rooms uncovered in Trench 54, a pottery fragment with a sunburst painted decoration was discovered that could be dated to the the beginning of the Harappan Period, perhaps as early as 2600 BC.

In addition to headdresses and hair decorations, loose hair is sometimes depicted on figurines. A few figurines have painted black hair extending from the back of the head to below the shoulders.

Ravi phase beads
From different levels of the Ravi phase come these terracotta beads (center string) and hard stone beads made from carnelian, amazonite, and lapis lazuli.
Period IIIBC Paleotopography
Period 3B and 3C deposits essentially cover the entire modeled area and represent the greatest extent of the ancient urban center.
