Through A Magic Lantern: Jackson's INDIA 1895

Through A Magic Lantern: Jackson's INDIA 1895 is a CD-ROM title about the visit of one of America's greatest early photographers, William Henry Jackson (1843-1942), to India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh a century ago.

During his visit, Jackson took a unique and stunning series of Photochroms and colored magic lantern slides.

He wrote a length series for Harper's Weekly introducing the Indian subcontinent to the American public.

The CD-ROM will take the user on a cinematic train journey into the past. It will show Jackson's photographs re-shot a hundred years later.

The demo for this title covers Jackson's thousand mile journey from Sindh to Punjab. It includes a dozen large QuickTime movies. This demo received an Honorable Mention in the Second Annual New Voices, New Visions multimedia competition sponsored by The Voyager Company and Interval Research, and was shown at the Interactiva Festival in Berlin, Germany, and at the Dallas Video Festival (1996). It is on view in Palo Alto, CA at the Interval Research Gallery.
