"We had no law here.
"So two of my Fathers friends [in jail] dressed themselves as donkeydrivers because there was some repair work going on in the jail. They used to carry bricks from the kiln.
"They went along with these donkeys and they told Father that the English are just finishing us off, and there is no one to help us. We have no newspapers. No news comes about it in the Indian newspapers. God knows when they are going to stop. It doesn't look like they are going to stop.
